Training Packages for vocational education and training webinar

Well, I just attended an IBSA webinar this morning that was aimed at consulting with the industry about strengthening the Assessment units of the proposed TAE Training Package.

The main reason they have not had the TAE Training Package endorsed yet is because ASQA (Australian Skills Quality Authority) conducted some industry audits and found that many assessors were not delivering assessment tools properly.

In some cases the tools themselves were a problem, but that is not the job for IBSA to correct… and that is also the topic of another article!

There seemed to be a gap between what assessors SHOULD be able to do, and what they are actually doing (or not doing!).

This has lead to a series of consultations before ASQA will consider endorsing the new TAE Training Package.

If you have not already done so, I urge you to check the Options paper by IBSA and have your say. You can have a look at the options by visiting: https://www.ibsa.org.au/projects/tae-certificate-iv-additions/tae-additions-development

Time is very tight on that consultation, so now is the time to make comments.

During this morning’s webinar we were informed of several important things that clarified how the qualifications in the TAE Training Package are going to sit within the industry.

TAE Training Package & the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Diploma of Vocational Education

Firstly, anyone who holds the current TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or the TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training will NOT be required to upgrade their qualifications, according to the current Standards for Training Organisations (2015) to the newer 2015 versions.

Now, this may change, but as things stand right now, the newer 2015 qualifications will not be forced onto the industry.

All new assessors and trainers will, however, have to do the new units/requirements. It is going to be a stronger set of qualifications once they are endorsed. But at the end of the day no-one can make anyone do the new qualifications when they are endorsed… unless the Standards for Registered Training Organisations are updated to reflect such a requirement.

Training Packages VET all assessors of TAE40110 must hold the TAE50111 in January 2017

Now, the other interesting thing was clarified during the webinar is that all assessors of the Certificate IV qualification (the current TAE40110 or the proposed new one) MUST hold the TAE50111 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (aka The Diploma of VET).

This is written in the current Standards for Registered Training Organisations (2015) as being a requirement as of January 2017.

All National Training Packages must be endorsed before they come into effect.  When the new TAE Training Package will be endorsed (possibly in early December 2015), they will also be requiring assessors of the TAE Certificate IV to hold the Diploma of VET… and their transition period would be the same. So, in essence, anyone at least assessing the Cert IV in Training and Assessment MUST hold the diploma of VET by January 2017.

Changes in VET Training package how to avoid the rush

I urge anyone who will need the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (TAE50111) qualification to start the ball rolling on it now, as then you would already be compliant with both requirements!  If you feel you are eligible for recognition of prior learning (RPL) why not take advantage of our free certificate evaluation service?

You can also learn more about the RPL process for the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training by clicking on the link http://www.openlearning.edu.au/diploma-vocational-education-training-information/

You can find out more about the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015

We all know how crazy life gets and how time flies. A year will be upon us in no time, and you do not want to run the risk of being non-compliant, or trying to hurry a qualification that is supposed to take 6-24 months! We clarify this in another post on the Diploma.

What does AQF mean?

Please note that the term AQF is no longer in use.  The correct acronym is now AQF which stands for Australian Qualifications Framework
