Why the TAELLN401 Address adult language literacy and numeracy skills is a hot elective unit

Much has been written about the language, literacy and numeracy skills in Australia.  Many Industry Skills Councils are developing strategies to address this issue.  You may have personally encountered students with literacy problems such as the inability to read learning materials or write answers to assessment questions.

This Unit of Competency is an elective from the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.  You can enrol at any time, and study at home.

You can complete this unit as an elective towards your Certificate IV, or you can simply enrol in this unit as a "stand alone" unit, and receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment upon successful completion.

The TAELLN401 Address adult language literacy and numeracy skills

will give you ...

• A good understanding of how to determine the core LLN skills of training you deliver;
• The skills to determine the core LLN skills of your learners;
• the knowledge to customise or develop learning and assessment materials that will meet the LLN needs of the training specification, the learners and the training context;
• Information on how to collaborate with specialists in the field of LLN;
• Skills to apply learning support strategies for to assist your learners to develop core LLN skills.

You will also be introduced to the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). You will learn how to use this document to carry out a Core LLN assessment to determine the LLN skill level of your learners.

 

The TAELLN401 - assessment process

The Assessment for this unit involves a practical component in its assessment.

It's important for you to know that achieving competence in this unit does not qualify you as a specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner.

As a single unit, $250. 

If you are already completing the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with us, the unit costs $105 for the electronic version, and $145 to receive manuals.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to recognise the core language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) demands of training and assessment, and to tailor training and assessment to suit individual skill levels, including accessing relevant support resources
 

When can you enrol?

You can enrol immediately.  Safecity is not limited to semester "intakes".

How long do I have to complete the unit?

Your enrolment will remain active for 12 months.

The unit can take anywhere between a few weeks and a few months to complete.  The time you take to study this unit will depend on your previous experience.  Remember, you set your own pace. 

What support will I get?

You will have access to a tutor who is experienced in this area, as well as our Support Network which includes a forum on all units of the TAE40110.  As with all our courses, phone support is also available.

Are there any pre-requisites to this unit?

No.  However, it is useful to have some knowledge of Australia's competency-based training system.
