Dear visitor,
There has been a lot of nonsense spread about the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, and the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualifications. No doubt some of these rumours and false statements have been spread by unethical individuals with vested interests who use fear tactics to attract students. However, in most cases, these rumours are caused by ill informed training organisations that have not quite understood the reasons for the introduction of the new training package and its effects on currently qualified trainers. |

Most RTOs (Registered Training Organisations) are ethical and honest and care about their students. There are, unfortunately, a few who will stoop to fraudulent practices. Help the Australian Training Industry to rid itself of such individuals.
Our State Training Authority (ACT Accreditation
and Registration Council) are experts at disseminating information and clear
guidelines. We have attended their excellent workshops and are
therefore able to provide you with informed, sensible answers.
You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website. |

Why was the new training package introduced?
The principle behind the new and exciting AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) is strongly dedicated to a policy of Constant and Never Ending Improvement or better known as Continuous Improvement. This simply means that in order to maintain excellence, training standards must be reviewed on a regular basis, and the contents altered and improved to meet new challenges in the workplace.
The previous Train The Trainer, Certificate IV in Workplace Training and the excellent BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training have all served the industry well. They have been stepping stones to the building of training excellence. I receive E-Mail and telephone calls from trainers all over the world commenting on the quality of Australian Training Standards.
As an Australian Qualified Trainer, you should know that you are one of the most respected in the world! These are not empty words--they are the truth.
Excellence is "earned" and maintained by constant scrutiny and re-evaluation. New and improved ideas may only be born in the spacious environment of imagination and evolution--without it we grow stale and old.
For this reason, all the State Training Authorities convene on a regular basis to discuss how the standards can be altered to meet new challenges--current and predicted. The new TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification is the result of thousands of consultative hours among authorities, training providers, employers and most importantly students.
Can we expect more changes in the future -- is this going to go on forever? The answer is, most definitely. If you are truly dedicated to your students' best interests, you will welcome this change. If you find these changes offensive and unnecessary, you will need to reflect on your motives and re-evaluate your thoughts based on the greater good--the future of your students and of your country.
What has changed?
Quite simply the new TAA04 training package has replaced the previous training package (BSZ98) governing all aspects of workplace vocational training.
Training packages govern the delivery of nationally recognised training in Australia. Among many other things, they provide guidelines for the qualification levels, the minimum standards for each qualification, the qualification of trainers who deliver the training, the assessment systems and the auditing tools that are required to monitor the quality of the training.
Many books have been written on this topic and, if you want to know more, you can obtain additional information from your State Training Provider. Visit www.ntis.gov.au. You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website.
Under the previous Training Package the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training was the required qualification for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
Under the new TAA04 Training Package the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the new qualification required for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
So what happens to all the previously qualified trainers and their student's qualifications? Are all the previous certificates they issued no longer valid?
| Of course not! Take a look at your certificate, does it have a symbol that looks like this? |
|
|
|
Yes? Then your qualification is as valid today as it will be tomorrow. Indeed, all State Training Authorities and Registered Training Organisations are required under the AQTF to recognise your qualification. |
I was told by a Registered Training Organisation that I would no longer be able to conduct training unless I completed their new TAA40104 Course.
The BSZ40198 qualification remains a valid qualification. However, there are currency issues relating to the former BSZ40198 qualification. You must provide evidence that you are currently (within the last three years) using the skills you achieved. Contact your local State Training Authority for deliberation.
The new training package includes the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has replaced the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training qualification at the end of November 2005.
There was a transitional period which ended at that time. From then on the new TAA40104 qualification has been the only one available.
However, industry will continue to recognise the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training as an accepted qualification for those currently delivering training and assessment services.
Employers can request that you upgrade your
qualification to the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
In such cases, compliance may be a requirement of your employment.
Please refer to the Revised Australian
Quality Training Framework Standards for Registered Training Organisations for
further details.
Safecity will be offering an
upgrade package to our graduates
and active students if they wish to, or need to, upgrade. If you are not a
Safecity's graduate :-( you can upgrade your qualification with us by lodging an
application form.
Remember, the old qualification will REMAIN VALID, as long as the qualification
is 'current' and is backed up by 'current' experience (i.e., follows the
Principles of Evidence).
What are the differences between the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
There are some fundamental differences
between the two qualifications.
The previous BSZ40198 course contained:
The TAA40104 course qualification includes:
Please ensure that the information you are being told is accurate. You can verify the information training providers give you by contacting your State Training Authority.
You can also view information on these qualifications by visiting www.ibsa.org.au (Innovation and Business Skills Australia), and the NTIS website at www.ntis.gov.au.
So how does my BSZ40198 qualification map out towards the new TAA40104?
If you are a Safecity graduate of the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, please log into your support website. Use your student pass to enter and download the information kit. You will also find a handy mapping guide of the two qualifications.
If you are not a Safecity graduate ...
OR PREFERABLY : - )
I was told by my RTO that in order to obtain the new qualification, I would simply have to pay them a fee and that there would be no further training or assessment required.
Please report the individual involved.
The new training package has set new specific guidelines. As part of your transitional recognition process you must be made aware of these changes. There are also new learning requirements that will need to be assessed.
What is most important is that you walk away from the process of transitional recognition with all the additional knowledge required by the New Package. If you simply "buy" your qualification, sooner or later, your lack of competency will cause immense damage to your career--do not settle for "bought" qualifications--insist on getting the required information.
Most RTOs are ethical and honest. There are, unfortunately, a few who will stoop to fraudulent practices. Help the industry to rid itself of such individuals.
So, is there any reason why I should
upgrade?
Definitely YES!
If you are a professional trainer and are truly dedicated to the principles of continuous improvement and care about student progress and if you want to give your students the best possible service, then DEFINITELY YES.
Do not be intimidated by some of the new terminology used. When you receive our upgrade kit, you will see that the process is indeed quite simple, and the new standards are appropriate.
Be a leader in your industry, and demand of yourself the same diligence that you expect from your students.
What is the difference between an upgrade kit and a recognition kit?
If
you hold the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training
or higher qualification you are invited to purchase the
upgrade kit. Our training team especially developed the kit to help
our customers obtain the new TAA40104 qualification. Our kit is a bridging
course with resources and learning activities to help ensures that you will
achieve the competency required under the new training package. If you are
a Safecity graduate of the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace
Training, you are in for a treat! Please
enter your student login details.
Beware of "you beaut, easy, just pay your money" recognition or bridging
courses. Your recognition process could be audited by the State Training
Authority. It is in your best interest that your qualification satisfies
all requirements.
If you are an experience trainer who
does not hold the BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training
and you feel confident that you will be able to satisfy the required
competencies for the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, you are
invited to
purchase the recognition kit.
This process does not involve any training. We will assess the evidence
that you prepare. You will however, receive a template that will greatly
assist in preparing a valid submission. Your assessor will be unable to
answer question or give you training advice until after the assessment process
has been completed.
I greatly encourage you to take the plunge and enrol in the full course.
As a professional trainer, you surely want to be fully informed about your craft
and the many tools you can use to benefit your students (and your career and
finances).
You may also consider enrolling in the full
TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. This is a good idea
because you will still be able to obtain recognition for the units of competency
for which you are able to provide supporting evidence AND also complete the
other units of competency for the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and
Assessment course.
So, what happens when I purchase a recognition kit from Safecity?
Please realise that purchasing a recognition kit from us does not in any way guarantee that you will be issued with the qualification. It is a well known fact in the industry that Safecity's Graduates earn their qualifications. There are no certificates for sale at Safecity.
