Our State Training Authority (ACT Accreditation and
Registration Council) staff are experts at disseminating information and
clear guidelines. We attend their excellent workshops and are therefore
able to provide you with informed, sensible answers. You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website. (make link over whole word). |
Why was the new TAE10 training package introduced?
The principle behind the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) is strongly dedicated to a policy of Constant and Never Ending Improvement or better known as Continuous Improvement. This simply means that in order to maintain excellence, training standards must be reviewed on a regular basis, and the contents altered and improved to meet new challenges in the workplace.
The previous Train The Trainer, Certificate IV in Workplace Training, the excellent BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment have all served the industry well. They have been stepping stones to the building of training excellence. I receive E-Mail and telephone calls from trainers all over the world commenting on the quality of Australian Training Standards.
As an Australian Qualified Trainer, you should know that you are one of the most respected in the world! These are not empty words--they are the truth.
Excellence is "earned" and maintained by constant scrutiny and re-evaluation. New and improved ideas may only be born in the spacious environment of imagination and evolution--without it we grow stale and old.
For this reason, the National Quality Council (NQC) convenes on a regular basis to discuss how the standards can be altered to meet new challenges--current and predicted. The new qualification is the result of thousands of consultative hours among authorities, training providers, employers and most importantly students.
Can we expect more changes in the future -- is this going to go on forever? The answer is, most definitely. If you are truly dedicated to your students' best interests, you will welcome this change. If you find these changes offensive and unnecessary, you will need to reflect on your motives and re-evaluate your thoughts based on the greater good--the future of your students and of your country.
What has changed?
Quite simply the new TAE10 training package has replaced the previous training package (TAA04) governing all aspects of workplace vocational training.
Training packages govern the delivery of nationally recognised training in Australia. Among many other things, they provide guidelines for the qualification levels, the minimum standards for each qualification, the qualification of trainers who deliver the training, the assessment systems and the auditing tools that are required to monitor the quality of the training.
Many books have been written on this topic and, if you want to know more, you can obtain additional information from your State Training Authority. Visit www.ntis.gov.au. You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website.
Under the previous TAA04 Training Package the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment was the required qualification for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
Under the new TAE10 Training Package the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the new qualification required for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
So what happens to all the previously qualified trainers and their student's qualifications? Are all the previous certificates they issued no longer valid?
|
Of course not! Take a look at your certificate, does it have a symbol that looks like this? |
|
|
|
Yes? Then your qualification is as valid today as it will be tomorrow. Indeed, all State Training Authorities and Registered Training Organisations are required under the AQTF to recognise your qualification. |
Industry will continue to recognise the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment as an accepted qualification for those currently delivering training and assessment services.
Employers can request that you upgrade your qualification to the TAE40110
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. In such cases, compliance may be a
requirement of your employment.
Please refer to the Revised Australian Quality Training Framework Standards for
Registered Training Organisations for further details.
Safecity will be offering an upgrade package to our graduates and active students if they wish to, or need to, upgrade. If you are not a Safecity's graduate :-( you can upgrade your qualification with us by lodging an application form.
We
are offering a Seamless Transfer from the TAA04 to the TAE10.
Remember, the old qualification will REMAIN VALID. For a further explanation of
this please refer to
TAE40110
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
Fundamental differences between the two qualifications.
The previous TAA40104 course qualification included:
12 Core Units of Competency, which include a range of training units, assessment units, and new Environment units.
2 Elective Units to be chosen from four different streams which focus on either Training and Delivery, Assessment, Environment, LLN, or Training Advisory Services.
a Vocational Education and Training context, and specifies the use of Training Packages or other standards.
The new TAE40110 qualification has:
7 Core Units of Competency, which include a range of training and assessment units.
3 Elective Units to be chosen from a wider variety of streams
Removal of a lot of repetition within units
Removal of the Environment field, where the outcomes of those units have been embedded within other Core Units from the qualification
Amalgamation of some units that are more commonly completed together (e.g. Facilitating Individual Learning almost always occurs in a Workplace context, so these two units have been combined into a single unit).
Please ensure that the information you are being told is accurate. You can verify the information training providers give you by contacting your State Training Authority.
You can also view information on these qualifications by visiting www.ibsa.org.au (Innovation and Business Skills Australia), and the NTIS website at www.ntis.gov.au.
So how does my BSZ40198 qualification map towards the new TAE10 TAE40110?
There is no direct mapping from the BSZ40198 to the new TAE40110 qualifications. There could also be the issue of currency if you have not been active within the industry.
Contact the RTO that delivered your previous qualification and ask them for a map
