DON'T PANIC

Our State Training Authority (ACT Accreditation and
Registration Council) staff are experts at disseminating information and
clear guidelines. We attend their excellent workshops and are therefore
able to provide you with informed, sensible answers. You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website. |
Why was the new TAE10 training package introduced?
The principle behind the AQTF (Australian Quality Training Framework) is strongly dedicated to a policy of Constant and Never Ending Improvement or better known as Continuous Improvement. This simply means that in order to maintain excellence, training standards must be reviewed on a regular basis, and the contents altered and improved to meet new challenges in the workplace.
The previous Train The Trainer, Certificate IV in Workplace Training, the excellent BSZ40198 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment have all served the industry well. They have been stepping stones to the building of training excellence. I receive E-Mail and telephone calls from trainers all over the world commenting on the quality of Australian Training Standards.
As an Australian Qualified Trainer, you should know that you are one of the most respected in the world! These are not empty words--they are the truth.
Excellence is "earned" and maintained by constant scrutiny and re-evaluation. New and improved ideas may only be born in the spacious environment of imagination and evolution--without it we grow stale and old.
For this reason, the National Quality Council (NQC) convenes on a regular basis to discuss how the standards can be altered to meet new challenges--current and predicted. The new qualification is the result of thousands of consultative hours among authorities, training providers, employers and most importantly students.
Can we expect more changes in the future -- is this going to go on forever? The answer is, most definitely. If you are truly dedicated to your students' best interests, you will welcome this change. If you find these changes offensive and unnecessary, you will need to reflect on your motives and re-evaluate your thoughts based on the greater good--the future of your students and of your country.
What has changed?
Quite simply the new TAE10 training package has replaced the previous training package (TAA04) governing all aspects of workplace vocational training.
Training packages govern the delivery of nationally recognised training in Australia. Among many other things, they provide guidelines for the qualification levels, the minimum standards for each qualification, the qualification of trainers who deliver the training, the assessment systems and the auditing tools that are required to monitor the quality of the training.
Many books have been written on this topic and, if you want to know more, you can obtain additional information from your State Training Authority. Visit www.ntis.gov.au. You will also find clear and correct information on the DEEWR website.
Under the previous TAA04 Training Package the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment was the required qualification for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
Under the new TAE10 Training Package the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is the new qualification required for all trainers delivering nationally recognised courses.
So what happens to all the previously qualified trainers and their student's qualifications? Are all the previous certificates they issued no longer valid?
|
Of course not! Take a look at your certificate, does it have a symbol that looks like this?
|
Yes? Then your qualification is as valid today as it will be tomorrow. Indeed, all State Training Authorities and Registered Training Organisations are required under the AQTF to recognize your qualification. |
The only thing you need to concern yourself with is keeping your skills current!
Industry will continue to recognize the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment as an accepted qualification for those currently delivering training and assessment services.
Employers can request that you upgrade your qualification to the TAE40110
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. In such cases, compliance may be a
requirement of your employment.
Please refer to the Revised Australian Quality Training Framework Standards for
Registered Training Organisations
(2010)
for further details.
Safecity will be offering an upgrade package to our graduates and active students if they wish to, or need to, upgrade. If you are not a Safecity graduate :-( you can upgrade your qualification with us by lodging an application form.
Remember, the old qualification will REMAIN VALID. For a further explanation of this please refer to TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
Fundamental differences between the two qualifications.
The previous TAA40104 course qualification included:
12 Core Units of Competency, which include a range of training units, assessment units, and new Environment units.
2 Elective Units to be chosen from four different streams which focus on either Training and Delivery, Assessment, Environment, LLN, or Training Advisory Services.
a Vocational Education and Training context, and specifies the use of Training Packages or other standards.
The new TAE40110 qualification has:
7 Core Units of Competency, which include a range of training and assessment units.
3 Elective Units to be chosen from a wider variety of streams
Removal of a lot of repetition within units
Removal of the Environment field, where the outcomes of those units have been embedded within other Core Units from the qualification
Amalgamation of some units that are more commonly completed together (e.g. Facilitating Individual Learning almost always occurs in a Workplace context, so these two units have been combined into a single unit).
Please ensure that the information you are being told is accurate. You can verify the information training providers give you by contacting your State Training Authority.
You can also view information on these qualifications by visiting www.ibsa.org.au (Innovation and Business Skills Australia), and the NTIS website at www.ntis.gov.au.
So how does my BSZ40198 qualification map towards the new TAE10 TAE40110?
There is no direct mapping from the BSZ40198 to the new TAE40110 qualifications. There could also be the issue of currency if you have not been active within the industry.
Contact the RTO that delivered your previous qualification and ask them for a map.
OR PREFERABLY : - )
Purchase our upgrade package. You will impressed by the quality of our
service--we do care about our students.
So how does my TAA40104 qualification map towards the new TAE40110?
There is direct mapping for the core and common electives toward the new
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Your TAA40104 qualification
is still valid, and will be recognised by industry for some time, providing you
remain current with your skills.
Yes. The new qualification is called the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (from TAE10 Training Package). It will replace the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (from TAA04 Training Package).
Question: So you mean I can
start studying now and finish with the
new
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
?
Yes.
Can I
enrol in the
TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and upgrade to the new
qualification
later?
NO. This is now a 'superceded qualification' and is no longer available for enrolments.
If I completed units in TAA04, do I get any credits for
that with TAE10?
Yes; if the units directly map across. Some do, and some don't. Please discuss your options with our friendly staff.
If you have already completed some of the TAA04 units, then the credits will depend on what units you completed.
Question: What is the difference between TAA40 the TAE10?
There is very little difference between the two qualifications. According to IBSA: "these qualifications are equivalent in broad content and outcomes".
Who is IBSA?
IBSA stands for Innovation and Business Skills Australia. They are the Industry Skills Council for Training and Assessment.
Where can I get more information about this new Training
Package?
For updated information visit the IBSA new training TAE10 package information website,
Can I enrol in the TAE10 now?
YES! We are now accepting enrolments into the TAE10.

How do I keep my skills current? Is simply teaching enough?
No.
Simply teaching and / or assessing is not enough to maintain current skills and knowledge.
To keep your skills current, you will need to:
continue to be active in training and assessing
AND also
keep abreast of any changes happening in the industry.
You need to continue to educate yourself about current standards, procedures
and competencies regarding the VET Sector, and seek opportunities for
professional development.
When was the new training package endorsed?
It was endorsed on the 12th May 2010.
What does "endorsed" mean?
Endorsed is the term used when a training package has been "approved".
When a new Training Package is endorsed, it supersedes the previous one.
So, are you saying my TAA04 will no longer be valid?
No! Your TAA04 qualification will still remain a valid qualification.
Is there a recognised benefit of one qualification over
the other?
At this stage, one qualification is not more important than the other. (Please also see the questions relating to remaining current in the industry.)
Will I be restricted in delivering training if I don't
have the most recent qualification?
There will be no restriction on the training that you can conduct.
Can you tell me what has changed in the new training package?
Many of the units are similar or the same. There are some new units, especially within the electives.
Some of the new elective units include:
TAEDEL404A Mentoring in the workplace
BSBCMM401A Make a presentation
I heard there are less units in the TAE40110 than in the TAA40104
In the new TAE40110 there are 10 units (7 core and 3 electives).
In the TAA040104, there were 14 units (12 core and 2 electives).
Why are there less units?
A lot of repetition has been removed, and the content has been reorganised a little.
Three TAA04 units were deleted, and their content was included within other units in the package.
So, it LOOKS less, but it is really the same material reorganised!
I have heard there are more electives. Is this true?
Yes.
You must choose 3 electives and you now have a greater choice to suit your specific needs.
What do the codes refer to?
The code TAE10 refers to the whole training package, while the code TAE40110 refers specifically to the NEW Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification.
What does the "10" mean?
The "10" refers to the year 2010, the year of endorsement.
What is TED10 then?
Originally the new training package was going to be coded TED10. IBSA decided to rename it at a later stage.
What is the course fee?
The fee remains at $1195 – there will be no fee increases.
Why does it cost the same?
The outcomes for both qualifications are the same, so the same amount of work is involved.
Can I upgrade from the BSZ directly to the TAE?
Safecity has worked on mapping the two
qualifications from the BSZ98 to the
TAE10. There would be an issue of currency as the BSZ is now quite old.
However, please discuss this mapping with us if you need guidance.
I only train individuals. Can I use this training for my course?
Yes, and No. We will need to see you training individuals, but we also need to see you training groups (2 or more people) for the unit TAEDEL401 Plan, Organise and Deliver Group Based Learning. This unit is a core unit in the TAE40110.
What if I don't have a group of students?
You can recruit family, friends, or work colleagues to play the role of "learner".
I have another question that isn’t answered on this page. Who can I write to?
